Avis Williams


Reverend Avis E. Williams, Pastor of Community Transformation, completed an Associate of Arts at Oxford College of Emory University, Oxford, Georgia, and a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Emory University, Atlanta. She also earned a Certificate of Theology from ITC Atlanta – The Interdenominational Theological Center, and a Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology, Emory University.

She was ordained to the ministry in 2004 at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Covington, Georgia, where she served as Minister of Education. Avis has also worked as Site Teacher for the ITC Certificate of Theology Program at Bethlehem, and as an instructor for the Community Bible Study at Sims Chapel Baptist Church also in Covington.


Rev. Williams was the organizer and pastor of Immanuel Progressive Baptist Church in Covington, and has previously served as Chaplain at the Gateway Homeless Center in Atlanta, and for the Newton County Sheriff’s Department.


She served as an Intern for LOCC during her third year at Candler. Upon graduation in 2008, she was called as Pastor of Community Transformation. Avis works with local community organizations in Putnam and Greene Counties to in improving the lives of children and their families.
